Google To Offer Datadog on the New Kubernetes Marketplace

Google Cloud Platform (GCP) has reinvented its cloud marketplace and announced various partnered vendors. This reinvention centers around the company’s Kubernetes options. Each of the partnered vendors adds promising functionality to Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). Companies with a background in security, data, development, storage, machine learning, and monitoring were included. Datadog alone fills the Kubernetes monitoring partnership.

Kubernetes Monitoring

The monitoring space takes up areas like infrastructure, networks, applications, and most recently, Kubernetes and containers. Datadog is a monitoring service for hybrid cloud applications. They assist organizations in agility, efficiency and provide end-to-end visibility. These services are provided by their SaaS-based data analytics platform. The platform enables development, operations, and other teams to accelerate market efforts, ensure application uptime, and successfully complete digital transformation initiatives.

GCP has long been the tertiary option for many enterprises interested in cloud. It sometimes comes down to tooling options, but having a vendor like Datadog makes it much easier to take the leap to GCP. This will undoubtedly cause more vendors to offer monitoring services for the cloud platform.

Outside of Datadog, the Google Cloud Marketplace lists Elastic and Prometheus as monitoring options. This space is bound to grow for the marketplace, considering its newness. Monitoring eliminates a lot of the headaches associated with containers and Kubernetes. Generally, Kubernetes or container users lack the security knowledge needed to manage it on their own. These tools come with lackadaisical security, to begin with, monitoring solutions prevent unexpected issues.

Cybercriminals take advantage of Kubernetes’ pitfalls through cryptomining. According to Symantec’s research, “Coinminers made up 24 percent of all web attacks blocked in December 2017, and 16 percent of web attacks blocked in the last three months.”

Symantec points out that this is a less disruptive way for cybercriminals to make money. The victims don’t notice immediately, which was the case for many companies caught in this crypto mess.

The difficulty in managing Kubernetes and containers can be a problem of the past with the right tooling. Google’s new partner network for Kubernetes provides quality options for various solution areas. Combining monitoring with security, data, storage, and more will increase the power and reliability of Kubernetes.
