According to a survey recently released by FireMon<\/a>, only nine percent of enterprises fully automate their network security. This information comes from the Future of Network Security<\/em><\/a> report, which surveyed 500 IT security directors, vice presidents, and C-suite professionals at enterprises with at least 1,000 employees. The report found a myriad of threats, both new and old, are precipitating the adoption of new security tools and architectures.<\/p>\n

FireMon found that only nine percent of organizations have completely automated their network security policies. 46 percent mostly automate their security, 43 percent answered somewhat, and just two percent said they have no security automation. The vendor found that more than nine in 10 organizations agree that network security policy management is a strategic investment.<\/p>\n

53 percent of enterprises plan to invest in network security policy management and automation within the next 12 months. 73 percent of survey respondents agreed that network security automation will spike in the next two years, and 18 percent strongly agreed. Additionally, 78 percent of organizations have already implemented security orchestration and automation or plan to in the next two years.<\/p>\n

In the company’s press release, FireMon’s President and CEO Satin H. Mirchandani stated: \u201cThe study shows that a cocktail of multiplying threats, the proliferation of hybrid and cloud architectures, blended with a pandemic-fueled explosion in distributed and remote work has created a perfect storm for network security teams. It\u2019s no wonder that they\u2019re adding new technologies, architectures, and approaches to ensure their networks remain protected.\u201d<\/p>\n
