Recently, Cambridge MA-based analyst house Forrester Research released the latest iteration of its flagship Forrester Wave report; this report is entitled “The Forrester Wave: External Threat Intelligence Services Q1, 2021.”

ALERT: Our Buyer’s Guide for SIEM helps you evaluate the best solutions for your business use case and features profiles of the leading profiles, as well as a category overview of the marketplace and Bottom Line Analysis.

Researchers Brian Kime, Elsa Pikulik, Merritt Maxim, Shannon Fish, and Peggy Dostie created a 26-criterion report analyzing the market. Through these criteria, they identify the 12 most significant vendors. These vendors include CrowdStrike, Digital Shadows, FireEye, Flashpoint, Group-IB, IBM, Intel 471, IntSights, Kaspersky, Recorded Future, RiskIQ, and ZeroFOX.

The Wave Report describes Forrester’s findings concerning how each provider meets its researchers’ evaluation criteria. Thus, with this information, Forrester’s researchers place each vendor on their Wave; the graph, in turn, positions each vendor as a Leader, Strong Performer, Contender, or Challenger in relation to one another.

The editors of Solutions Review read the full report. Here’s what we found.

Key Capabilities in External Threat Intelligence Services

External Threat Intelligence Services offer enterprises greater indicators of compromise (IOC) feeds and phishing alerts. As such, the researchers behind the report note the importance of vendors providing a primary source intelligence and brand reputation protection. Additionally, vendors should provide strong vulnerability intelligence to better reduce alerts.

Three Leaders in the Report

The researchers behind The Forrester Wave: External Threat Intelligence Services Q1, 2021 name three providers to the position of Leader: FireEye, CrowdStrike, and Kaspersky. Recorded Future, Group-IB, Digital Shadows, ZeroFOX, Flashpoint, RiskIQ, and IBM are all Strong Performers. Meanwhile, Intel 471 and IntSights are Contenders.

FireEye is singled out for its overall threat intelligence and its Managed Defense service. CrowdStrike’s threat intelligence and its plans to expand to cloud and mobile infrastructures garner praise. Kaspersky receives attention for its plan to integrate its threat intelligence into a unified platform.
