As we all know, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is taking the HR industry by storm \u2013 impacting job descriptions and redefining how HR and talent management professionals work<\/a>. For instance, not only does AI speed up the sorting and filtering process for HR professionals by helping them scan resumes, but now, AI technology is humanizing the process by giving recruiters more time to talk to strong candidates.<\/p>\n

Additionally, recruiters are no longer separated by time and distance from candidates because chatbots can now answer simple questions across all time zones, resulting in more efficiency for HR professionals and faster responses for prospective candidates.<\/p>\n

With this in mind, we had the chance to speak with Anish Joshi<\/a>, VP of Technology at Fusemachines, about how organizations today are using AI technology to optimize the HR screening process and his thoughts about this new “digital HR” era.<\/a><\/p>\n

How are organizations today using AI technology to optimize the HR screening process?<\/h3>\n

AJ: Hours of manual and administrative work are put into recruiting the right candidates for organizations. Being able to reduce the amount of time spent on screening candidates, allows for better HR productivity by focusing on building out candidate experiences. AI is dramatically changing the HR and talent management landscape. Advanced algorithms allow AI technologies to search for the most relevant skills, experience, and education; providing HR professionals with the most suitable candidates through automated resume screening. AI technology will help reduce gender, race, and ethnicity discrimination by diminishing human bias and providing an objective and data-driven view while also optimizing the screening process.<\/p>\n

Digital HR \u2013 what are your thoughts on that?<\/h3>\n

AJ: In our increasingly digital world, it should come as no surprise that social media, cloud computing, mobile technology and digital analytics are finding their way into HR practices.<\/a> With the rapid digitization of what used to be a completely manually run department, organizations may sometimes face employee backlash due to dramatic digital changes. However, AI technology, when implemented steadily and with the right training can allow for HR personnel to effectively measure employee satisfaction and map employee life cycles to maximize employee engagement \u2013 which is essential in today\u2019s workplace.<\/p>\n

How is AI revolutionizing the HR department?<\/h3>\n

AJ: Innovation in AI plays a key role in the revolutionizing of HR departments. There are the baseline advancements such as AI technology supporting the candidate screening process, robots conducting interviews, and using chatbots for internal queries. However, new technology from Talespin shows how companies can use VR and HR to teach employee soft skills. They recently announced a virtual human platform to create realistic simulations for employee training purposes. The platform can create scenarios for trainees, such as being tasked with terminating a fellow employee. There will continue to be more software, platform, and program developments that are geared towards employee training and education, using AI.<\/p>\n

What are the benefits AI brings to organizations?<\/h3>\n

AJ: AI is extremely beneficial in the optimization and streamlining of work in HR departments<\/a>. For example, at Fusemachines, we help companies implement AI technology into their business models, by investing heavily on finding and grooming AI talent around the world. We integrate the teams led by AI PhDs with engineering teams to help build AI features or products. We\u2019ve seen some of the biggest benefits in document classification and categorization, which is a problem in library science, information science, and computer science. What about HR professionals?<\/h3>\n

Information retrieval is also a benefit for HR departments. It is a technique of obtaining structured or unstructured data that can satisfy information needed from a large pool of data stored in computers. This type of program can be used by HR professionals to sift through large volumes of candidate profiles at a time and also keep on file potential candidates for an opening that may arise later down the line.<\/p>\n

How does AI help with talent management?<\/h3>\n

AJ: AI is completely changing how organizations identify, hire and manage talent. They are increasingly adopting AI-based software and programs into their employee management strategies. Talent management<\/a> is an industry built on relationships, human connections and emotional intelligence and it is very interesting to see how AI is helping to make improvements and increase employee satisfaction with HR departments. AI can aid in the talent management process<\/a> by providing personal experiences basis each individual employee\u2019s skill set and motivators.<\/p>\n
