Whether or not companies are doing their best of onboarding new hires, however, is questionable. According to the latest available data from a <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2015\/03\/technology-can-save-onboarding-from-itself\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harvard Business review article<\/a>, only 28 percent of organizations indicated they had a highly successful onboarding program and 22 percent said they didn&#8217;t have a program in place at all.<\/p>\n<div class=\"widget\"><div class=\"aside-card\">\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><a class=\"speedbump-1\" href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/talent-management\/free-talent-management-buyers-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1682\" title=\"Talent Management Buyer's Guide\" src=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/talent-management\/files\/2019\/02\/tm-bg-speedbump.jpg\" alt=\"Download Link to Talent Management Buyer's Guide\" width=\"800\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fierceceo.com\/human-capital\/mixed-opinions-over-how-well-companies-are-greeting-new-employees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Karen Talley, editor for FierceCEO<\/a>, interviewed multiple business leaders and HR professionals about\u00a0the concerningly low numbers. Below is what she gathered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Franco Girimonte, associate principal at HR consulting firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehackettgroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hackett Group<\/a>, said the one of the reasons behind this are because onboarding is sometimes not a fully integrated process. An easy way to overcome this, however, is by implementing a <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2GYmagT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Talent Management Software Suite<\/a>\u00a0that offers a fully integrated onboarding program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">CEO&#8217;s need to recognize how important onboarding programs are. Without them it would be a totally inconsistent experience for the newly hired employee and their first impressions of the business\/organization could be really bad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allegisgroup.com\/insights\/recruitment?ecid=ag_ag_n_cli-pro_xx_tas-2017-v2_xx_xx_xx_20171106_4f05de6c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">survey<\/a>\u00a0by the Allegis Group, revealed that 54 percent of candidates were \u201csomewhat\u201d or \u201cvery likely\u201d to leave an organization based on a poor onboarding experience. When it came to readiness for a new hire\u2019s first day- encompassing introductions to teammates and key stakeholders, manager meetings and facility tours &#8211; more than 70 percent of hiring managers said they \u201calways\u201d cover these activities, yet only 23 to 50 percent of candidates agreed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">With all that being said, it&#8217;s encouraging to know that companies are starting to catch on and catch up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cOrganizations are maturing and starting to understand how to engage employees to make them more productive,\u201d said Robert Cojocaru, a leader in <a href=\"https:\/\/home.kpmg.com\/be\/en\/home\/services\/advisory\/management-consulting\/people---change-\/talent-management.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KPMG\u2019s Talent Management Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The first 90 days of employment are critical because of these first impressions. Plus, making sure the employee feels comfortable and settles in well is how business leaders will receive great <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2zbOJpJ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">performance<\/a> from them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&#8220;During the onboarding process, business leaders must ensure new hires have a deep understanding of their jobs and begin to immerse themselves in the organization&#8217;s culture,&#8221;\u00a0said Debbie Ritchie, president of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studergroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Studer Group<\/a>. \u201cWe recommend 30 and 90 day meetings with new employees and their supervisor or mentor to build a solid employee\/leader relationship and provide an opportunity for the employee to give feedback.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Within the first 30 days, the primary focus for business leaders is to help familiarize the employee with the business and assess how they&#8217;re adjusting. The 90 day meeting shows a managers support for the new employee and reveals whether or not he\/she will need more help or assistance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&#8220;These meetings also uncover learning opportunities for the new employee to become successful in their new role\u00a0and enable the new employee to share observations and ideas to improve the workplace,&#8221; Ritchie said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&#8220;Prepare for their arrival\u00a0in advance,&#8221; suggests Michael Perez, president of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nautilushr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nautilus HR<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cMake sure their work area is stocked with supplies, computer and phone are activated, nameplate is in place and they are updated in the company directory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Planning time to spend with the new employee in order to orient them to their role is another thing leaders should do that make an onboarding program successful. Making personal introductions, organizing scheduled training and even taking them out for lunch definitely can&#8217;t hurt as his demonstrates a managers commitment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cCultivating a productive workforce starts on an employee&#8217;s first day, with all levels of organizational leadership,\u201d Steve Pruden, senior VP of human resources at <a href=\"https:\/\/appirio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Appirio<\/a> said. \u201cNot only does this set new hires up to be more productive, it increases the likelihood that they\u2019ll stick around longer.
