In my mind, even though the two products compete on virtually the same enterprise ERP level, they almost couldn&#8217;t be more different. Here&#8217;s my analysis.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"reader-text-block__heading1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Head-to-Head Comparison<\/strong><\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"reader-text-block__heading2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Infor CloudSuite<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span class=\"tvm__text--legacy-publishing-emphasis\">Strengths<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Vertical industry solutions for manufacturing (e.g., automotive, aerospace &amp; defense)<\/li>\n<li>Flexibility \u2013 Very flexible compared to\u00a0SAP,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/oracle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-entity-type=\"MINI_COMPANY\" class=\"external\">Oracle<\/a> ERP Cloud, etc., because\u00a0Infor\u00a0has grown the solution through acquisitions like Lawson and Baan.<\/li>\n<li>Infor CloudSuite has business process models that are easy to modify, and you don&#8217;t have to fit your business into the system.<\/li>\n<li>Broad and diverse capabilities rival\u00a0SAP\u00a0and\u00a0Oracle.<\/li>\n<li>Innovative features like predictive analytics and planning for the supply chain<\/li>\n<li>Configure Price Quote (CPQ) capability is great for complex make-to-order on sales, providing pricing and order information to feed into manufacturing processes. Many other vendors don&#8217;t have this.<\/li>\n<li>Retail, apparel, and fashion \u2013 The ability to handle colors, sizes, etc., is a strength.<\/li>\n<li>Food and beverage \u2013 dealing with units of measure is a strength<\/li>\n<li>Product innovation \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/kochindustries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-entity-type=\"MINI_COMPANY\" class=\"external\">Koch Industries<\/a>\u00a0acquired\u00a0Infor\u00a0and is putting a lot of money into R&amp;D and resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span class=\"tvm__text--legacy-publishing-emphasis\">Weaknesses<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>More &#8220;old school&#8221; User Experience (UX) compared to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/netsuite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-entity-type=\"MINI_COMPANY\" class=\"external\">NetSuite<\/a>,\u00a0although\u00a0Koch Industries is investing to make it modern.<\/li>\n<li>Less professional services resources (although consultancies can help with that).<\/li>\n<li>Relatively confusing roadmap \u2013 make sure you understand what you&#8217;re buying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"reader-text-block__heading2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>SAP<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span class=\"tvm__text--legacy-publishing-emphasis\">Strengths<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Business models enforce standardization in big companies<\/li>\n<li>The high breadth of capability, although not everything moved from legacy to S\/4HANA<\/li>\n<li>Heavy R&amp;D has resulted in some cutting-edge technology<\/li>\n<li>HANA&#8217;s database was built to phase out Oracle from legacy. It has high performance, real-time transactions, predictive analytics, and advanced architecture.<\/li>\n<li>On-premise or cloud deployment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span class=\"tvm__text--legacy-publishing-emphasis\">Weaknesses<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Lack of flexibility \u2013 standardization works against an organization compared to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/microsoft\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-entity-type=\"MINI_COMPANY\" class=\"external\">Microsoft<\/a>\u00a0Dynamics and other more flexible ERPs like\u00a0Infor\u00a0CloudSuite<\/li>\n<li>The rigidity of business models<\/li>\n<li>Complexity \u2013 because it&#8217;s so robust, any changes in one place can affect something somewhere else<\/li>\n<li>Acquisitions \u2013 Ariba, Success Factors (HR), Concur means SAP is becoming &#8220;best of breed&#8221; rather than one integrated system.<\/li>\n<li>High Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). The cost is more because the product is complex and bigger. As a result, the typical customer is also bigger and more complex.<\/li>\n<li>S\/4HANA is missing some functionality from ECC, like advanced planning<\/li>\n<li>The high failure rate of implementations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"reader-text-block__heading1\"><strong>Research<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">I also did some research on the Infor and SAP websites (and YouTube), where I found some information on both products as well as some videos and product tours that can help you make up your mind. Here is some of what I found.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"reader-text-block__heading2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Infor Cloud suites<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.infor.com\/solutions\/erp\/ln\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"external\">Infor LN CloudSuite homepage<\/a> represents the Automotive, Aerospace &amp; Defense, and Industrial Enterprise vertical solutions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of the CloudSuite advantages is predictive analytics. The answer is\u2014spoken like the true consultant that I am\u2014it depends. One thing is for sure. Neither product is a good fit for small businesses, typically defined as below $50 million in revenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Infor<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>CloudSuites are usually an excellent fit for medium to large-sized manufacturers, typically defined as $50 million on up to 10s of Billions in revenue, particularly in the vertical industries of Automotive, Aerospace &amp; Defense, Industrial Machinery, and Electronics\/High Tech. The CloudSuites are strong in what I call &#8220;big project&#8221; industries such as train or shipbuilding. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/progress-rail-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-entity-type=\"MINI_COMPANY\" class=\"external\">Progress Rail, A Caterpillar Company<\/a>, a division of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/caterpillar-inc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-entity-type=\"MINI_COMPANY\" class=\"external\">Caterpillar Inc.<\/a>,\u00a0is implementing\u00a0Infor\u00a0CloudSuite in 50+ plants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\">Infor\u00a0CloudSuites may be better if you are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A medium to large discrete manufacturer in the verticals mentioned above or just general industrial manufacturing<\/li>\n<li>Medium to high-growth business<\/li>\n<li>Needing a more flexible solution<\/li>\n<li>Needing a more flexible set of industry business models<\/li>\n<li>Looking for business process workflow automation<\/li>\n<li>Looking for &#8220;best of breed&#8221; solutions built in an OS around the core ERP system<\/li>\n<li>Looking for a lower complexity cloud solution that can be implemented as largely standard<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">SAP<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>S\/4HANA is well suited for the upper half of the medium-sized range, say $500 million on up to over a billion. Still, they are traditionally focused only on super large organizations that can handle the high complexity, cost, and implementation durations of SAP\u00a0S\/4HANA. Strong industries are Process Manufacturing, Construction, and Government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\">SAP\u00a0S\/4HANA may be better if you are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A large to a very large manufacturer in verticals like Process Manufacturing, Oil &amp; Gas, and some other verticals mentioned above<\/li>\n<li>Low growth, mature business without significant plans for growth<\/li>\n<li>Needing a more standardized solution and can tolerate a relatively inflexible implementation methodology<\/li>\n<li>Willing to implement and adapt to using ASAP and SAP&#8217;s\u00a0standard business models without change<\/li>\n<li>Looking for an &#8220;all in one&#8221; ERP solution with add-on products like Ariba<\/li>\n<li>Needing a higher complexity cloud solution that can only be implemented as customized<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">I hope you liked this comparison and my editorializing on the Infor CloudSuites vs. SAP\u00a0S\/4HANA.
