{"id":2269,"date":"2025-08-25T15:49:50","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T15:49:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/thought-leaders\/?p=2269"},"modified":"2025-08-19T18:02:54","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T18:02:54","slug":"dear-c-suite-you-dont-always-need-a-data-revolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/thought-leaders\/dear-c-suite-you-dont-always-need-a-data-revolution\/","title":{"rendered":"Dear C-Suite: You Don\u2019t Always Need a Data Revolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"isPasted\">I&#8217;m probably doing myself out of a job here!<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a truth most consultants won\u2019t tell you: Your business probably doesn\u2019t need a multi-million-pound \u201cdata transformation\u201d to survive.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s not the story you\u2019re sold.<\/p>\n<p>The playbook is predictable:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hit the ground running.<\/li>\n<li>Paint a catastrophic picture of your data and tech landscape.<\/li>\n<li>Make you feel like you are one missed project away from collapse.<\/li>\n<li>Propose an eye-watering \u201csolution\u201d that looks like an arms race in cloud spend and headcount.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But here is the reality: Sometimes you already have the tech, people, and processes you need; they just need fine-tuning.<\/p>\n<p>But fear sells better than pragmatism.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I&#8217;m currently working with an insurance client and speaking to their teams, they actually have a lot of fantastic things in place. Their business model is fantastic and they don&#8217;t need to &#8220;AI&#8221; everything! There are of course tweaks that can be made, which will be proposed, but if I said they need a wholesale change to all tech etc. I would be marched out of the building and stripped bare in the streets of London!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When you\u2019re in the C-Suite, you have got to separate urgency from alarmism, and here is the part many consultants often miss entirely: your company\u2019s culture, history, and commercial DNA.<\/p>\n<p>If your business has been built on cost control and pragmatism, why would you buy into a vision that burns cash to \u201ccatch up\u201d to some fantasy benchmark?<\/p>\n<p>My 5-Point C-Suite Filter for Data &amp; AI Initiatives:<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49Ask: Is This Evolution or Revolution?: if it\u2019s revolution by default, it\u2019s probably overkill.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49Demand Cultural Alignment: any plan that ignores your operating style is doomed.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49Measure Value Before Spend: if they can\u2019t prove small wins in months, they haven\u2019t earned the right to ask for millions.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49Kill the Fear Narrative: problems are solvable. Drama is a sales tactic.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49Protect Your Org\u2019s DNA: tech should enable your business model and not overwrite it.<\/p>\n<p>The most effective transformations I\u2019ve seen weren\u2019t driven by hype or fear. They were measured, culturally aligned, and built on a deep respect for why the business exists in the first place.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I&#8217;ve had the fortune of working in proper transformations programs and seen first hand how they can succeed. That&#8217;s why I often talk to the C-Suite about processes, culture and change. Which sometimes puzzles them because they make the assumption that I am the &#8220;data&#8221; person and will of course go straight to the data debate!<\/p>\n<p>The question for every C-Suite leader is this:<\/p>\n<p>Are you buying a solution to your problem or someone else\u2019s idea of what your problem should be?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m probably doing myself out of a job here!
