The pressure comes from all angles \u2014 expectations from leadership, confusion among stakeholders, and the constant need to prove the value of what you\u2019re doing. (That\u2019s a whole blog post in itself, but we\u2019ll save that for another day!)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">So if you\u2019re sitting at your desk feeling stuck, wondering how on earth you\u2019re supposed to make this work, firstly, you\u2019re not alone.<\/p>\n<p data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">But let\u2019s be honest, sympathy from me won\u2019t solve anything.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">You need something practical. And I know how overwhelming it can feel to sift through all the options, trying to figure out what might actually help and what\u2019s just noise.<\/p>\n<p data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">One option people often consider is coaching. But does it really work? And can it really help?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Coaching Helps When it\u2019s Grounded in Real Experience<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The benefit of working with a coach is that they\u2019ve probably been through what you\u2019re going through.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">And it\u2019s incredibly valuable to have someone on your side who truly understands the challenges you\u2019re facing. That way, you\u2019re not just getting advice \u2014 you\u2019re getting support, ideas, and reassurance from someone who gets the real-life pressures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">That\u2019s why it\u2019s so important to choose a coach who has actual experience in your field. In something as complex and misunderstood as Data Governance, you need someone who doesn\u2019t just know the theory but has lived through the reality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">In my case, I\u2019ve worked my way up in Data Governance from the ground level, and there are very few challenges I haven\u2019t seen before. I always say, I\u2019ve already made the mistakes, so you don\u2019t have to.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Coaching Helps When it Builds Confidence<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">There\u2019s no single way to \u201cdo\u201d Data Governance. Every organisation is different, shaped by its people, its culture, and its goals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">That\u2019s why support isn\u2019t just about getting things done. It\u2019s about helping you feel more sure of yourself \u2014 especially when things feel messy or unclear. The right kind of coaching gives you space to think, test ideas, and talk things through without pressure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Often, what people need most is confidence. Not just to understand the concepts, but to talk about them clearly with others, especially senior leaders. Coaching can help you feel more ready to speak up, explain your thinking, and trust your own judgement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">One person I worked with described coaching as having a \u201ccritical friend\u201d \u2014 someone who listens, gives honest feedback, and helps you stay grounded when things are tough.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">At Volkswagen Financial Services UK, one Data Governance lead said my coaching helped them feel more confident in new situations. Their Enterprise Data Governance Lead was working through new, unfamiliar situations and needed a way to sense-check their approach \u2014 to feel confident that the decisions they were making were not only right for the business, but aligned with good industry practice. They described our coaching sessions as a space where they could test ideas, tackle challenges, and get strategic input:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><em>\u201cIt gives you real confidence that you are heading in the right direction, and you are doing the right things by your organisation, by the people in your organisation, and by your customers. And that you are doing the right thing with industry practice.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">That confidence filtered outwards. Data Governance began to feel less like a blocker and more like a tool for enabling change:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><em>\u201cBefore I came into this role, I saw governance as a bit of a blocker\u2026 Nicola has enabled me to [see it differently] because she\u2019s given me the confidence in myself. People now want to work with us to achieve and make what they need to make. I have really benefited from it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">When people feel more confident, they don\u2019t just feel better \u2014 they start to lead. And that\u2019s when real change starts to happen.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Coaching Helps When it Fits Your Needs<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">There\u2019s no shortage of theory out there \u2014 blogs, books, frameworks. But theory alone doesn\u2019t get you unstuck when you\u2019re faced with real-life challenges. The real question is:\u00a0<em>how do you turn all that knowledge into something that actually works for you and your organisation?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">That\u2019s where coaching comes in \u2014 not as a one-size-fits-all solution, but as flexible support tailored to what\u00a0<em>you<\/em>\u00a0need, when you need it.<\/p>\n<p data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">When we work together, you can use our time in whatever way is most useful for you. That might mean:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Asking questions about anything you\u2019re grappling with<\/li>\n<li data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Practising stakeholder conversations (I\u2019m happy to play the awkward one!)<\/li>\n<li data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Getting feedback on your documents or plans<\/li>\n<li data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Having me join virtual meetings to quietly back your case<\/li>\n<li data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Or using the time for me to review materials so you can focus on other priorities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">And to make things even easier between sessions, you can also get access to my\u00a0<strong>AI assistant.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">It\u2019s designed to help you navigate day-to-day data governance tasks \u2014 whether you want to sense-check your thinking, explore best practices, or get help writing a stakeholder summary. It won\u2019t replace our sessions, but it will help you keep momentum and feel supported in the moments when you\u2019re working things through on your own.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">All sessions are recorded, so you can revisit them anytime. And you can choose between six- or ten-hour packages to use flexibly over six months \u2014 no pressure, just support at your pace.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Data Governance can feel isolating \u2014 especially if you\u2019re the only one leading it in your organisation. It\u2019s not about dropping in, delivering a template, and disappearing. It\u2019s a personalised journey \u2014 and no two journeys are the same.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Some people come to me feeling completely overwhelmed, asking, <em>\u201cWhat do I do now?\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Others already have the basics in place but want to fine-tune their approach, build buy-in, or gain the confidence to lead more strategically.<\/p>\n<p data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Wherever you\u2019re starting from, I\u2019ll meet you there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">My focus is on helping people succeed with Data Governance in a way that feels right for\u00a0<em>them<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 not just ticking boxes or copying what others are doing.
