Comcast Launches Xfinity xFi for Wireless Network Management

Comcast Launches Xfinity xFi for Wireless Network ManagementSetting up a wireless network has never been a fun task. As a matter of fact, I feel that we’re all in consensus that establishing a wireless network really, really sucks. ISP giant, Comcast is looking to lend a helping hand with this labor of loathe by offering xFi, a new mobile app for Xfinity customers.

Th application works with iOS and Android works with internet gateway box available for rent from Xfinity. Not dissimilar from the Google WiFi appl, xFi employs a very minimalist design feature graphics to walk users through a wireless setup. After that, the app makes you give the new network a name and password.

Aside from the setup assistance, xFi also provides a number of handy features for maintaining the wireless network. xFi allows you to create profiles for each individual member of your household and assign devices to each profile. This gives users the ability to keep track of who’s using the most data, pause and resume wireless service to individual users, and establish internet ‘bed times’ for individual users.

The application is pretty smart too. It’s able to distinguish between different types of mobile devices and knows the difference between phones, laptops and streaming boxes. In addition to mobile devices, the xFi application also works through the web and on TV using the Xfinity X1 cable box.

The application is available for all Comcast subscribers right now. If you find that you’re your hardware isn’t compatible with the app, Comcast says that it will upgrade your hardware for free. Learn more about xFi here.
