\"Amped<\/a>Just yesterday, we reported that Netgear had released its new wireless system, Orbi<\/a>. Well, today Amped Wireless<\/a> announced pre-orders for its Ally Wi-Fi System<\/a>. Ally is a wireless mesh system that Amped calls a seamless roaming solution. It includes MU MIMO technology, AC1900 wi-fi (802.11ac) and a mobile application for set up and network monitoring. The router is currently going for $199.99, while you can purchase the full two unit system called Ally Plus (includes a router and extender) for \u00a0$379.99. The tow units are expected to be shipped in early October. This two part system\u00a0is similar to Netgear’s Orbi system, but different than eero and Luma whose components are identical but labeled router and extender based on their placement during set-up.<\/p>\n

Amped Wireless is talking up its partnership with AVG as a major selling point for the system. Amped’s partnership with AVG provides security software built in the router with the ability to protect users’ tablets and phones from malware and suspicious websites (its still uncertain whether the software will be able to protect users against malicious mobile applications as well).<\/p>\n

The Ally mobile application also features parental controls that are able to monitor network activity for children, block certain websites, establish time limits, and an “internet pause” feature. This is done through the creation of individual profiles with customized privileges.<\/p>\n

The Ally router unit includes a Gigabit WAN Ethernet port for connecting to a broadband device(cable modem, DSL, etc.) in addition to three Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, for connecting other wireless devices. A USB 3.0 output allows you the ability to attach an external USB hard drive for file sharing purposes. The extender device contains one additional Ethernet port but no USB ports.<\/p>\n

Each unit will include four 2.4 GHz internal amplifiers and three 5 GHz amplifiers, four 2.4 GHz internal low noise amplifiers and the 5 GHz external amplifiers. The Ally system uses three dual band internal high gain antennas and one single band internal high gain antenna on each unit as well.<\/p>\n
