Gartner Names 3 Cool Vendors in Core AI Technologies, 2018

Analyst house Gartner, Inc. has released its newest vendor reporting highlighting three emerging solution providers that offer CIOs innovative alternatives in the data and analytics space. Its Cool Vendors in Core AI Technologies zones in on startups that offer some disruptive capability or opportunity. Gartner says that cool vendors “exist across all major areas of technology and innovation” and CIOs that pay close attention to these trends can avoid the “disadvantage in trying to keep up.”

At Solutions Review, we’ve read the full report, available here, and want to take the opportunity to expand upon the introduction Gartner has given to these providers. Though Gartner’s process for selecting Cool Vendors is somewhat mysterious, we believe our unique view of the marketplace can help you to better understand how these tools will fit into the overarching landscape as they mature.

Bitext

Bitext is a San Francisco-based startup that specializes in the development of multilingual text analysis engines. The company’s services are available in more than 50 languages across the globe. Bitext’s natural language processing (NLP) Framework offers a variety of capabilities and specific services to make AI-enabled chatbots smarter and more conversational. The company also provides a text categorization service that is based on automated coding. Bitext was founded in 2007.

SignAll

SignAll is developing the world’s first automated sign language translation solution. The company is located in Budapest, Hungary, and its product is based on computer vision and NLP. The SignAll prototype is currently able to translate part of an ASL user’s vocabulary. The prototype features a depth sensor which is synced up with a set of cameras and a computer to generate text from the user’s hands and gestures. SignAll was founded in 2016.

Twenty Billion Neurons

Twenty Billion Neurons is a computer vision company that builds advanced machine learning systems that understand video. The vendor’s technology can analyze human actions and extract real-time information from video streams. The company has also built a crowd-acting platform and some of the largest video datasets for training deep neural networks. The networks are pre-trained in the datasets of crowd-acted videos. Twenty Billion Neurons is based in Berlin, Germany.

We realize that these companies don’t align with those that we traditionally cover on this site. However, given that AI and machine learning technologies are becoming increasingly common in today’s BI and data analytics products, we thought it’d be a fun exercise. And sometimes, it’s just cool to see the kinds of things that are going to define the next wave of enterprise software.
