Starburst Data offers a data access and analytics tool that is based on Presto. it provides fast and interactive enterprise-ready distribution, consisting of additional tooling and configurations that enable data analysts to run queries against various data sources ranging in size from gigabytes to petabytes. The solution also includes a cost-based query optimizer which improves Presto query performance, by over an order of magnitude in many cases.

Starburst Galaxy allows users to query a variety of data sources, or join data across multiple data sources through a single query. Starburst users can easily sign-up through AWS Marketplace, connect to Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) buckets, their Glue meta store and MySQL/PostgreSQL RDS.

In a media statement on the news, Starburst co-founder and CEO Justin Borgman said: “Many vendors make their products available in each of the major cloud providers and refer to them as ‘multi-cloud.’  Starburst is taking the industry to a new frontier, as the first to offer “cross-cloud” analytics, enabling SQL joins across tables living in different clouds. At Starburst, we believe you should own your own data and have the freedom to decide where it live. With Galaxy, we’re excited to bring the first cross-cloud analytics SaaS platform to market, and proud to say it includes native security features, a flexible consumption model, and a great user experience.”
