Alation recently announced its acquisition of data insight firm Lyngo Analytics, according to a press release on the company’s website. The merger will enable Alation to enhance the user experience within its popular data catalog and scale intelligence for its customers. Lyngo Analytics uses a natural language interface to enable users to discover data and insights by asking questions using simple, familiar business terms. Lyngo Analytics CEO and co-founder Jennifer Wu and CTO and co-founder Joachim Rahmfeld will join Alation.

Alation offers a platform for a broad range of data intelligence solutions including data search and discovery, data governance, data stewardship, analytics, and digital transformation. The product features a Behavioral Analysis Engine, inbuilt collaboration capabilities, and open interfaces. Alation also profiles data and monitors usage to ensure that users have accurate insight into data accuracy. The platform provides insight into how users are creating and sharing information from raw data as well.

The new integration will lower the barrier to entry for business users, letting them acquire and develop data-driven insights from across an organization’s data sources. This means even data consumers without SQL expertise can ask questions in natural language and find data and insights without the support of data analysts.

In a media statement on the news, Alation Chief Product Officer Raj Gossain said: “Alation created the first machine learning data catalog and we’re known for providing the most user-friendly interface on the market. With this acquisition, we’re building on the best. We’re doubling down on key aspects of the platform that will help drive data culture and spur innovation and growth. Jennifer and Joachim developed a unique solution for a complex data and analytics issue, and I’m excited to welcome them to the Alation team.”
