Couchbase Updates Autonomous Operator for Kubernetes to Version 2.0

Couchbase recently announced the release of Couchbase Autonomous Operator for Kubernetes, according to a press release on the company’s website. Autonomous Operator version 2.0 features self-service access to the Couchbase database while standardizing development, test, pre-production, and pre-production environment. The solution also runs, manages and scales the Couchbase database next to microservices applications on the same Kubernetes platform. Couchbase Autonomous Operator is generally available and offered as part of an enterprise subscription.

Couchbase’s flagship offering is Couchbase Server, an open source distributed multi-model NoSQL document-oriented database software package that was designed for interactive applications. Couchbase can be clustered from a single machine to very large-scale deployments spanning many machines. The product also provides simple scaling key-value or JSON document access with low latency and high sustained throughput.

Autonomous Operator 2.0 includes several new management features like Automated User & RBAC Management, Automatic Backup & Restore Management, and Auto-Configuration of Cross Datacenter Replication Management. The product also provides additional user control via an advanced Kubernetes Operator Security Model, Certificate Management using Mutual Support, and Centralized Monitoring and Alerting using Prometheus.

Couchbase has added Simplified Deployment for Couchbase Sync Gateway in Kubernetes alongside Autonomous Operator. This enables the ability to deploy edge applications and connect them to the Couchbase database. Autonomous Operator also lets customers run a Couchbase cluster on a wide range of clouds like Red Hat OpenShift, Google Kubernetes Engine, Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, and Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service.

In a media statement about the news, Couchbase SVP and CTO Ravi Mayuram said: “The Couchbase Autonomous Operator for Kubernetes is an important step towards offering what the 21st century enterprise needs: a fully autonomous data management platform that greatly reduces the complexity of hundreds of data clusters, and the industry’s first cloud-native data platform.”
