Oracle AI World Debrief: Slow and Steady Wins the Race

BARC’s Kevin Petrie offers expert insights via his 2026 Oracle AI World debrief. Solutions Review‘s Expert Network is an enterprise tech publishing platform where thought leaders turn real-world authority into visibility and authority.

My big takeaway from Oracle AI World: enterprises will transform their processes slowly, and that is a good thing.

You could feel a tug of war between the pace of AI development and the cautious realism of people whose jobs depend on its outcomes.

On the one hand, Sam Altman marveled at the speed of model improvement, telling Oracle co-CEO Clay Magouyrk “it’s like I am managing a factory inside my computer.”

On the other hand, adopters told me they have just begun to scope how AI can enhance and streamline their business processes.

One attendee described his team’s cost-reduction objectives with AI and the upcoming decision points about how to achieve them over the next 12-18 months.

I think this pragmatic approach is healthy and plays to Oracle’s strength, which is that it knows how to run production workflows safely.

Oracle understands that its users prioritize risk mitigation as much as AI reinvention.

All of which brings us to the Oracle AI Data Platform or AIDP, which is adding significant enhancements over the next 12 months.

Oracle EVP T.K. Anand explained in his keynote yesterday that AIDP enables enterprises to ground their projects in business context, build agents, and deliver valuable experiences and outcomes.

He outlined a vision in which data, AI and business teams solve the problems of context engineering, agent development and continuous optimization on one governed platform.

For example, AIDP helps users build ontologies that define the nuanced interrelationships of their business concepts and entities.

An AI Discovery agent generates these based on database schemas, semantic models and documentation.

Expert humans then review, revise, approve… and monitor as AIDP periodically recommends updates.

Based on the ontology, Oracle’s Semantic Reasoning Engine retrieves context, reconciles relationships and enforces governance controls.

In this vision, context becomes a set of data products – modular, standard, interoperable and reusable.

You assemble the right Lego pieces on demand so the agents on top can learn, decide and act efficiently.

Data teams will maintain oversight and control of their agentic workflows with a registry of agents, tools, skills and MCP servers.

Oracle also is working to help users track agent behavior, accuracy and performance.

There are challenges.

While Oracle support third-party software and data sources, some users might hesitate to standardize too much of their AI initiatives on one vendor.

But Oracle’s integration with hybrid environments, coupled with its long experience with production workflows, puts Oracle in a solid position to help users innovate without big disruptions.

And those users’ measured pace of adoption raises the odds that the innovation won’t backfire.
