Amdocs: Security Is the Top Challenge for Cloud Adoption

According to research released by Amdocs, security is still the top cloud adoption challenge for enterprises and IT teams across the globe. This information comes from the 2020 Cloud Migration Trends Report which surveyed 1000 IT professionals on cloud adoption and integration. The report revealed how security continues to be a barrier preventing successful cloud adoption in the business world.

Our MSP Buyer’s Guide contains profiles on the top managed cloud service providers for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, as well as questions you should ask vendors and yourself before buying. We also offer an MSP Vendor Map that outlines those vendors in a Venn diagram to make it easy for you to select potential providers.

Amdocs found that on the whole, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated adoption to the cloud rather than deter it. The report revealed that 34 percent of U.S. enterprises expedited cloud technology adoption while only 22 percent delayed cloud tech adoption. 34 percent also increased the recruitment of cloud adoption staff, signifying companies aren’t afraid to increase their cloud budgets even in the wake of the pandemic.

However, companies are still facing notable challenges that prevent them from fully succeeding with their cloud adoption. Security is the top problem concerning cloud adoption, with two-thirds of companies responding that security was a major cloud-based challenge. Other top challenges include data management (48 percent of respondents), data integration (45 percent), cost control (39 percent), and compliance/regulations (38 percent).

In a blog post covering the report, Amdocs General Manager and Division President Avi Kulshrestha stated: “In the past, security and compliance concerns were powerful barriers to adoption. Today, IT organizations no longer see these issues in absolute terms, but rather as ‘challenges to tackle’. Yet complexity and configuration continue to be problems associated with moving to the cloud and should be looked at closely before a journey has started to create the right approach based on business needs.”
