Microsoft Announces Critical Updates to Azure Cloud Platform

Microsoft Announces Critical Updates to Azure Cloud PlatformMicrosoft has just announced the latest updates to their Azure Cloud platform. In an article written for CIO by Dan Heilman, he says that the updates will include Premium Storage, which will store data on the latest SSDs and offer 32TB of storage for every virtual machine.

Premium Storage will allow for the capability to put any service in the cloud. With all the space Premium Storage offers, there are virtually no limits to the amount of data that can be stored.

Other enhancements include Azure Active Directory which gives employees access to corporate resources at all times and Azure RemoteApp which will deliver remote applications from the Azure Cloud. These features and more will smooth over the process of moving physical systems onto the cloud.

Azure RemoteApp, which is now available, will make it much easier for larger enterprises especially, to update and modernize old Windows apps that need to be available for all of the new devices and eventually wearables people are using.

The two Azure Active Directory features for connecting business infrastructure to the cloud are also available.

Azure AD Proxy gives remote access to web applications like Outlook Web Access and SharePoint and gives them multifactor authentication for smartphones.

Azure AD Sync is used for usernames and passwords. It keeps usernames and passwords in sync between AD cloud services.  Employees can change their passwords in the online portal and have them sync back to AD automatically.

These features aren’t new to cloud entirely, but they are new to Azure and to Microsoft. These services are not available for Microsoft Azure users, with other new features expected to follow in the coming months.
