Oracle and KPMG: 92 Percent of Companies Have a Cloud Security Gap
According to research recently released by Oracle and KPMG, 92 percent of companies have a cloud security readiness gap. This comes from the Oracle and KPMG Cloud Threat Report 2020, based on a survey of 750 cybersecurity and IT professionals around the glove. The report, the first in a five-part series on cloud security, reveals how misinformation on cloud security is still prevalent even as the market continues to mature.
Oracle and KPMG found that as cloud migration expands, it is outpacing cloud security readiness. 92 percent of respondents admitted that their company has a cloud security readiness gap. Worryingly, 44 percent claimed that their cloud security readiness gap could be classified as “wide.” This suggests that cloud adoption is happening too rapidly for proper security protocols to keep up.
The survey also revealed how concerned employees are about cloud security, but also how unprepared they are to deal with them. While three-fourths of respondents believe that the cloud is more secure than their data center, people are three times more worried about cloud security than safety at home. In addition, only 18 percent of IT and security professionals stated that they understand the shared cloud security responsibility model — up from the mere eight percent of last year, but still a shockingly low figure.
In an official press release on the report, Oracle Cloud’s Senior Vice President Steve Daheb stated: “The lift-and-shift of critical information to the cloud over the last couple of years has shown great promise, but the patchwork of security tools and processes has led to a steady cadence of costly misconfigurations and data leaks. Positive progress is being made, though. Adopting tools that leverage intelligent automation to help close the skills gap are on the IT spend roadmap for the immediate future and the C-level is methodically unifying the different lines of business with a security-first culture in mind.”
