Google’s New APIs Will Ease Data Transfer Between Apps
Google has just released new application programming interfaces (APIs) that will make it easier for users to securely move and work with data across multiple apps without having to export or cut and paste information. These new APIs will also make it easier for developers to connect their applications and their data to Google Sheets and Slides.
This is good news for enterprises who use the Google platform for their business. It’s now much easier to collect, organize and share data onto Google Drive apps from other secure enterprise apps. It can be difficult to copy and paste information into different apps especially when they are being used on mobile devices and to do it constantly can discourage employees for using the apps properly or at all.

According to Google Sheets Project manager Tom Holman, the new Slides API will give developers a way to build applications where users can push data and charts to Slides and take advantage of its functionality to create more full-featured reports. The Slides API gives developers programmatic access to create and update presentations. For example, developers can use this API to push data and charts into Slides to create a polished report from source data in other application, ready to present.
The new Sheets API gives developers programmatic access to powerful features in the Sheets web and mobile interfaces, including charts and pivot tables. For example, developers can use Sheets as part of a rich workflow that pushes data from their app into Sheets and allows users to collaborate on that data before the updated data is pulled back into the original app, removing altogether the need to copy and paste.
Users can now also embed linked charts from Sheets into Docs or Slides. Once the underlying data in a spreadsheet changes, whether that change comes from an action taken in another app via the API or a collaborator, an updated chart in the corresponding presentation or document is just one click away.
The new Sheets API is available today and the Slides API will be launching in the coming months.
