Mobile App Development is Taking off in the Healthcare Industry

healthcare

Healthcare professionals are some of the most in-demand people on a day to day basis and it’s about time they get the technology that truly reflects how important they are. Not only are they almost constantly in demand, but mobile apps can assist in making their jobs easier and much more efficient and no industry stands to gain more from technology than the healthcare industry. With advances in cloud and connecting everything to the IoT, we’re looking at millions of healthcare apps the need to be developed to access all this information.

There’s this precarious tipping point that needs to be mentioned every time we talk about mass producing enterprise-grade apps. There is this very real potential that the demand for these apps will far surpass the ability to supply them. Not does this mean that apps can take much longer to complete, but asking price of developers will be very high. When it comes to the budget of a hospital, there are many other things that will have budget priority over developing apps. This could push back major app deployment for years.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at what technology companies and app development platforms are doing to counteract this unevenness. According to an article by Shane O’Neill, major tech companies like Apple are starting to establish themselves int he healthcare industry. They have planned to develop eight new apps for users to monitor specific conditions. While these are consumer facing apps, they could still help healthcare professionals tremendously. Patients can show the results of their app to their doctor and these apps could potentially sync with hospital devices.

Steps like these can truly assist the medical community in many ways. These consumer apps have options to opt into anonymously sharing data to help conduct studies. These studies will assist in developing new research and treatment into certain conditions. Doctors can have master versions of the consumer apps that allow them to analyse symptoms and eliminate conclusions much more quickly than ever before. This will allow them s\to see more patients and could potentially cut down on emergency room waiting times.

Like with any enterprise-grade app, there are security concerns, but with healthcare apps the security concerns are different and in some perspectives, greater. Having everyone’s private and personal medical information being accessed from multiple devices can be a cause of concern. Not only are hacks a possibility, but any leak of this private information can spell serious legal ramifications. It is certainly possible to get this level of security, but it will certainly take some time to test and deploy the technology.
