Siri data security Symantec IBMPhil Harris is the Security Strategist for Symantec and he has written a very interesting post on the security risk presented by everyone’s favorite virtual assistant Siri. IBM recently announced that they are banning employees from using Siri due to the fact that everything you say to her is stored in a data center in North Carolina. Now companies not only have to protect against the written bits and bytes in texts and emails, but have to seriously consider how to protect themselves from the digitized spoken word. We’re recommending that every corporate BYOD policy should now contain what we’ll call the “Lomasney Rule” named after the great old Boston Irish ward boss Martin Lomasney who used to say: “Never write if you can speak; never speak if you can nod; never nod if you can wink.”
