CrowdStrike Achieves IL5 Authorization to Secure U.S. DoD

CrowdStrike, an endpoint security solutions provider, announced this week that it has been granted an Impact Level 5 (IL5) Provisional Authorization (PA) from the United States Department of Defense (DoD). A broad range of DoD unclassified National Security Systems (NSS) can now deploy the CrowdStrike Falcon platform to protect mission-critical data. The U.S. DoD uses an Impact Level classification system to authorize cybersecurity technology, with IL5 being the highest level of authorization granted to controlled unclassified information (CUI). This authorization will allow the DoD, Intelligence Community and other federal agencies to deploy CrowdStrike to protect their most critical unclassified assets, and will aid the agencies in achieving operational Zero Trust architectures, which the DoD plans on completing by 2027.

Salt Security Attains AWS Security Competency Status

Salt Security, an API security solutions provider, this week announced that it has achieved Amazon Web Services (AWS) Security Competency status in the Application Security category. Salt is the only API security company to have earned AWS Security Competency. Having this certification differentiates Salt as an AWS Partner Network (APN) member that provides specialized software to assess code, logic, and applications to detect vulnerabilities and threats. To receive the designation, APN Partners must possess deep AWS expertise and deliver solutions seamlessly on AWS.

Purdue University Research: Software Supply Chain Security Risks… Are We Equipped to Act Accordingly?

Two Purdue University researchers are taking aim at the growing surge of supply chain attacks, particularly those directed at third-party software suppliers and vendors connected to the actual target. Sabine Brunswicker, a professor of digital innovation and communication, is collaborating with Santiago Torres-Arias, an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, to better understand the way the software supply chains are structured to develop solutions for combating cybersecurity attacks that emerge from the use of open-source software. To leverage their Purdue efforts, Brunswicker and Torres-Arias received a coveted donation from Google totaling $200,000 to advance their research in this space. The two also are affiliated with the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS) at Purdue.

BackBox Releases Cisco CIS Benchmark Automation Templates

BackBox, a network automation security solutions provider, this week has released 178 new CIS Benchmark Compliance Automation Templates for Cisco firewalls, routers, and other network devices. These templates enable CIS compliance and their release coincides with Cisco Live!, taking place from Sunday, June 4 through Thursday, June 8 in Las Vegas. The BackBox Network Automation Platform complements Cisco with a full suite of automation capabilities that enable pre- and post-checks on the update process, as well as simplified backups and restores should an update fail. Similarly, the BackBox API allows easy enterprise integration for streamlined processes like device discovery, inventory, and compliance. The BackBox Network Automation Platform includes a library of over 2,000 pre-built automations for network and security devices.
