VIAVI Solutions is bringing new fiber monitoring capabilities to the Optical Network Monitoring Solutions (ONMS) family, according to a press release on the company’s website. The new solutions include new software and hardware that make remote fiber testing easier for businesses. This boosts VIAVI’s ability to deliver remote network intelligence and help clients achieve high quality of service (QoS), uptime, and security.
VIAVI Solutions delivers network visibility to NetOps and SecOps teams to help manage daily IT operations, mitigate risks, and solve performance and security issues. The company is a veteran monitoring vendor, delivering wire data capture via its GigaStor appliance. VIAVI helps organizations gain insights into network infrastructure devices and corresponding IP addresses, MAC addresses, and usernames.
One of the new solutions VIAVI is introducing is a patented Flash Fiber Monitoring feature for ONMSi and SmartOTU software. This allows users to detect flash attenuations, allowing IT administrators to prevent network route flapping and burst network error conditions. VIAVI also announced new iOTDR Micro and Nano cards and new fiber network analytics using the NITRO BI Fiber Insight Platform for ONMSi.
In the company’s press release, VIAVI’s Vice President and General Manager, Converged Instruments and Virtual Test Kevin Oliver stated: “With these additions to the ONMS line, VIAVI innovation continues to lead the industry in helping customers scale construction and maintain the performance of critical fiber infrastructure to alleviate years of workload on network staff. With the ability to proactively monitor fiber using automated, remote test capabilities – service providers, NEMS and hyperscale operators can reduce expensive downtime and repair dispatch using proactive, assessment of the network health, improving the performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction across the fiber lifecycle.”
