10 App Development Blunders that Lead to a Bad User Experience

Gartner Mobile Application Development Mistakes

Gartner Mobile Application Development MistakesAs you’ve heard from me before, a bad user experience can kill even the most amazing apps. One of my favorite sites on mobile application development, SiliconIndia.com has an article that lays out, courtesy of Gartner, ten basic mistakes to avoid when building your app:

1. Violating the 3 click/tap/press rule.

2. Bad ergonomics.

3. Reusing learned behaviors like soft-keys and navigation.

4. Violating “security 101.”

5. Non-intuitive navigation.

6. Scattered and/or hidden important app functions.

7. Incorrect or illegal display of graphics.

8. Inability to correct user mistakes.

9.  Hiding your content

10. Resource inefficiency.

Along with the bad, there is also some good, too. Here are a few development planning considerations worth your time:

Demand: What does the customer want/need? How are your competitors approaching the challenge?

Supply: You need the right person and/or team to build the app, as well as the right services and partners for development, roll-out and management.

Control: Who will manage your app strategy and keep track of how your app is performing, and do they have the power within your organization to implement a course-correct if needed?

All important issues to keep in mind as you develop your apps.
