Backblaze Releases Quarterly Disk Drive Stats Report
The company had 301,120 hard drives used to store data as of the end of last year. A chart of the Q4 2024 disk drive annual failure rates (AFR) for various suppliers’ drive types shows a pronounced 4.5-plus percent AFR for four drives. These outliers were a 12 TB HGST model (HUH7212ALN604) and three Seagate drives with 10 (ST10000NM0086), 12 (ST12000NM0007), and 14 TB (ST14000NM0138) capacities.
Commvault Announces CIS-Hardened Images
These CIS-hardened images are pre-configured with CIS-recommended settings and controls and will be available on the following marketplaces: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and VMware. CIS-hardened images are software files that are pre-configured to align with the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Benchmarks.

Hitachi Vantara Partners with BMC
This partnership will improve enterprises’ operational capabilities with a suite of easily deployable solutions tailored for hybrid cloud environments. The combination of the BMC AMI mainframe software portfolio with Hitachi Vantara’s Virtual Storage Platform One and Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) will provide robust features designed to streamline operations across mainframes and reduce operating costs.
HPE Launches ProLiant Gen12 Servers
With this launch, HPE has a number of new servers. The first two are single-socket servers. HPE told Serve the Home they are seeing a slow migration towards single CPU server designs as processors get more cores. The first is the 1U HPE ProLiant DL320 Gen12.
