Veritas Introduces NetBackup Recovery Vault Managed Cloud Storage Service
Veritas Technologies recently announced Veritas NetBackup Recovery Vault, a fully managed Storage as a Service data repository for Veritas NetBackup. Generally available later this year, Recovery Vault will deliver mission-critical ransomware resiliency as a purpose-built, air-gapped storage tier for backups. The new tool will also reduce the cost and complexity of using cloud storage from a selection of leading providers for long-term retention and reliable recovery of backup data.
Veritas Technologies provides backup and recovery, business continuity, information governance, and storage management tools. Its NetBackup product is a single and scalable solution that can protect physical, virtual, and cloud workloads. Multitenant support is optional, and the solution is available on a converged platform that requires minimal administration, even in large environments. It eliminates point products and improves productivity within a business using centralized, policy-based management. Veritas also incorporates innovative technologies for data reduction and bandwidth efficiency while providing extensive indexing and search capabilities. To extend its digital compliance portfolio, Veritas acquired Globanet in 2020 and HubStor in 2021.
Recovery Vault will simplify provisioning cloud-based storage and reduce risks by providing a secure and unified interface to manage backup and recovery. Users can easily provision cloud-based storage with the freedom to select the leading cloud storage provider of their choice. This gives users the flexibility to automate the provisioning of cloud storage among different providers on an application by application basis all within a single subscription.
Because Recovery Vault facilitates separate, air-gapped cloud-based storage, it also reduces the risk that ransomware and other threats affecting primary data stores could compromise backups. Recovery Vault cloud storage also benefits from NetBackup’s leading protection capabilities, including:
- Immutable cloud storage and data encryption in transit and at rest to ensure compliance and protect data.
- AI and machine learning-based anomaly detection to identify unexpected changes to backups before an event occurs.
- NetBackup Intelligent Cloud Policy Engine, which abstracts cloud data protection complexity by automatically detecting and protecting new workloads across all major clouds.
In a media statement, Christophe Bertrand, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, said, “traditional approaches to cloud data protection aren’t keeping pace with IT complexity, the evolving threat landscape or economic expectations. Recovery Vault is designed to help enterprises be confident that their data is secured in the cloud from ransomware and other risks, plan for disaster recovery, and meet compliance and governance requirements — all within the NetBackup platform to help improve operational efficiencies and costs.”
