At its second annual Built to Change Summit, CA Technologies announced various updates and tools to enhance, what they call, the Modern Software Factory. The solutions work to improve the software development lifecycle by incorporating advanced analytics and data science with machine-learning, AI, and automation.
One specific update revolves around the mainframe, as IBM and CA Technologies have teamed up to provide a suite of mainframe software solutions. CA and IBM have been partners for a long time, but this new strategic partnership involves jointly developing and selling new services for IBM’s Cloud Managed Services on z systems (zCloud).

CA Brightside is their newest solution and is easily integrated with IBM zCloud. Brightside is designed to make the mainframe a key component for DevOps workflows.
Philip Guido, GM of Infrastructure Services for IBM Global Technology Services stated:
“To assist our clients, IBM introduced Cloud Managed Services on z Systems. This service combines the security and power of IBM’s mainframe with the flexibility and scalability of the IBM Cloud. IBM and CA are committed to deepening the platform’s role in enterprise digital transformation.”
Greg Lotko, general manager, Mainframe at CA Technologies stated:
“CA and IBM have an opportunity to help our clients overcome challenges in rising costs of IT ownership, workforce evolution and security issues head-on. Together, we give every company an opportunity to realize even greater value in their investments by combining the reliability of the mainframe with the speed and agility of DevOps.”
Another way CA Technologies works to improve the mainframe is with their SaaS offering, CA Mainframe Resource Intelligence. This tool provides actionable analytics and intelligence to help users optimize. It allows users to see what tools, like automation, will work best in their mainframe. As amazing as the cloud is for any enterprise, there are many downsides such as cost. Many enterprises don’t have the right tools to manage cost. Therefore, managed service providers are growing in popularity. Combining CA’s tools with IBM’s Mainframe allows enterprises to manage cost efficiency and improve their DevOps practices.
