Verizon and IBM Form Partnership on 5G and Edge Computing Solutions
Verizon Business and IBM are entering a collaboration to design and deploy 5G and edge computing solutions, according to a joint press release on both companies’ websites. The vendors plan to combine Verizon’s 5G and multi-access edge compute (MEC) capabilities and IBM’s expertise in AI, hybrid multicloud, and edge computing. With Verizon’s wireless technology and IBM’s analytics, clients can detect, locate, diagnose and respond to system anomalies and predict failures in near real-time.
According to Verizon and IBM, the first solutions planned from this collaboration will be mobile asset tracking and management solutions. These solutions will help enterprises improve operations and optimize production quality, and help clients enhance worker safety. The vendors are also working on combined solutions for 5G and MEC-enabled use cases, including real-time cognitive automation for industrial enterprises.
In the official press release, IBM’s Senior Vice President of Cognitive Applications, Blockchain, and Ecosystems Bob Lord stated: “The industrial sector is undergoing unprecedented transformation as companies begin to return to full-scale operations, aided by new technology to help reduce costs and increase productivity. Through this collaboration, we plan to build upon our longstanding relationship with Verizon to help industrial enterprises capitalize on joint solutions that are designed to be multicloud ready, secured and scalable, from the data center all the way out to the enterprise edge.”
