Extreme Networks: The Future of Wireless Network Solutions and BYOD

Extreme Networks BYOD Wireless Solutions Review

Extreme Networks BYOD Wireless Solutions ReviewBYOD programs will obviously put a strain on organizations wireless networks, but Extreme Networks seems to have a solution to that problem. In what they are calling “the future of wireless network forwarding,” Extreme Networks is supporting and encouraging BYOD through the use of closely controlled wireless access points.

Through what they are calling “local bridging” they feel they can offer significant advantages to existing strategies that may struggle to support density that BYOD programs would bring to a network. Extreme Network’s Bill Webster says, “basically our access point can map an SSID directly to a VLAN, and that VLAN can terminate the SSID directly on the switch where the IP [address] is plugged in and that allows the switch to do the data forwarding across the network. That eliminates the data plane portion of the controller’s job. We call it Local Bridging, which we believe is the future of wireless network forwarding.” Click here to read more about Extreme Network and their work supporting BYOD programs.
